"18th Annual Pre-Lunar New Year Gala 2024" is a popular community event to kickoff the celebration for the Lunar New Year 2024 - the year of Dragon. It held at Tangram Flushing on the weekend of February 3 & 4, which is one week before the Lunar New Year Day. This 2-day event is organized by Asian American Activity Center Inc., officially co-sponsored by NYS Assemblyman Ron Kim and NYC councilwoman Sandra Ung, and business co-sponsored by CPC and Hyatt Place LaGuardia.

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It symbolizes the beginning of a new year and represents the desire of new life. Since the Lunar New Year celebration is centered around removing the bad and the old, and welcoming the new, so children and adults have to put on new clothes, new shoes, new outfits for the festive period.

As an important family reunion occasion, the best food and drink are a crucial part of the Lunar New Year celebration. People shop flowers such as orchids, narcissus, gladiolus, chrysanthemums, anthuriums, peach blossoms, and lotus flowers to bring themselves good fortune and prosperity. Decoration is a big part of Lunar New Year celebration. People fix up folk paintings on walls, hang red lanterns in and outside their houses, display couplets on doors, hang a big Chinese character LUCK on the main entrance, and so on. Whatever the general public need for the Lunar New Year, they can find from "18th Annual Pre-Lunar New Year Gala 2024".
